According to the website of Russia's Business FM radio station on October 14, the South Korean brand Samsung has been replaced by China's Haier as the top seller in the Russian television market after ruling the market for nine years. Experts believe that foreign suppliers that have withdrawn may lose the Russian market altogether as the country continues to suffer from sanctions.
Citing statistics from F+ IT Holding, the Russian newspaper Kommersant reported that Chinese TV brands have become sales champions in Russia.
The biggest-selling TV brand in Russia this year was China's Haier, which accounted for 11.5 percent of the country's total sales, the report said. South Korea's Samsung had a 5.1 percent market share, well down from 25.3 percent a year earlier. The two brands that followed Haier in sales - Xiaomi and Hisense - are also from China, with market shares of 8.3 percent and 6.6 percent, respectively.
Commenting on the phenomenon of Russian TV set consumers turning to Chinese brands, Anton Gusikov, director of the public relations department of the Association of Household Appliances Trading Companies and Producers, commented, according to the report, "We are indeed seeing a reshuffling of market shares on the electrical appliances market. This is true not only for TV sets, but also for other products, including small and large home appliances. Chinese and Turkish brands are now taking the lead in terms of market share, replacing those that have withdrawn or scaled down their presence on the Russian market, namely Japanese, European and American brands, as well as Korean brands. People will buy what is available on the shelves and will buy what is widely marketed and at the right price."
Gusikov said, "We can't say that Korean or Japanese televisions have disappeared with us. They still exist, but they are fewer and more expensive. And there are more and more brands of Chinese televisions, they have big screens and are attractively priced, so consumers are flocking to these televisions."
Overall, according to Gusikov, Chinese manufacturers are able to put out very advanced, technologically advanced products.
